We often reserve our homemade limoncello to sip as an after-dinner treat. However, we have found that it also can be turned into this sweet-tart cocktail. If you wish, skip the sugaring of the cocktail-glass rim, although it is an easy garnish that always gets guests talking.

Ingredients:

  • 1∕4 lemon
  • White sanding sugar (also called decorating sugar), for sugaring glass rim
  • 2 fluid ounces vodka
  • 1 fluid ounce limoncello
  • Thin lemon twist, for garnish (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Run the lemon wedge around the rim of a chilled martini glass. Spread a few tablespoons of the sanding sugar in a saucer. Roll the outside of the glass rim in the sugar, keeping excess sugar o of the inside (just wipe it out with a clean ngertip if this happens) so the drink doesn’t get too sweet. Return the remaining sugar to its container.
  2. Squeeze the lemon juice from the wedge into an ice- filled shaker. Add the vodka and limoncello and stir until well chilled, about 10 seconds. Strain into the prepared glass and serve.
